Priority of Blister Pack Fulfilment:

  • The filling of compliance packs should be done in accordance with the schedule of order receiving and shipment dates outlined in the table below:

Filling Compliance Packs - Qube Packs:

  • To be used for all blister packs that call for Qube packing on the right side of the screen under the drug layout plan
  • The smaller blister pack will be preferred for most orders
  • For any orders with 10 or more medications in any particular slot, the larger blister pack should be used. This is to ensure the pharmacy techs will be able to accurately count all the individual pills in the blister pack for approval


1. Login to Profill


2. Open: Warehouse > on bottom right hand side of screen click to filter pharmacy > choose the appropriate pharmacy based on time of the week and priority of filling requirements


3. Click on a badge to bring up a patient order


4. A list of the drugs required to fill the blister pack will be shown


5. Collect all the drugs required to fill the blister pack

  • Ensure DINs are matched before filling the blister pack
  • Align drugs in the order that they are being dispensed
  • Scan all bottles one time and ensure the products collected match the DINs required to fill the order. After this scan, the status of the medication will change from "Waiting" to "Picking" in the right column


6. Before beginning to fill, look through the coming weeks and note any aberrations to the dosing schedule

  • Some medications may be tapering or have inconsistent schedules.
  • Example: a drug may only be taken every second day, and not daily


7. Begin with the top of the drug list and move down, dispensing medications into the slots of the blister pack as the mirror image as they appear on the screen

  • Medications destined for the "Morning" slot should be placed into the rightmost column of the blister pack
  • Tablets listed as being 1/2, or 1/4, must be split before being dispensed
  • IF a medication is unavailable for a required DIN, follow the Common Issues protocol for this issue


8. As each drug is filled, rescan the product bottle so that the field appears says "Picked" on the filling screen


9. Move down the list until all drugs are dispensed


10. Once all medications have been dispensed, and all product bottles have been scanned through a second time, a message will pop up on the fill screen that reads "All compliance items picked". Click "OK".

  • A label with the patient name and a barcode will print. These labels may be referred to as patient barcodes.


11. Print the labels for the blister pack for the patient that was just filled:


    a) Sign into the Blister Packing Computer Terminal

        Username: sysadmin

        Password: sysadmin


    b) Open the SynmedSoft program on the desktop 

  • Sign into the SynmedSoft program using your Providen login credentials


    c) Click on the desired patient to select and highlight on screen

  • This patient will be found at the bottom of the list


    d) Click "Reports"


    e) Click "Blister card label"


    f) Un-Click all other fields so that just "Blister card label" has a checkmark


    g) Click "Generate All"


    h) Click "Print"

  • Blister pack labels will print


12. Quality Check: Compare blister pack labels to bubble pack layout with drugs inside

  • Use tweezers as necessary to count drugs in each space


13. Close blister packs:


   a) Place the tri-fold card on the blister pack sealing tray.

   b) Carefully lift the blister pack insert that contains the medications to match the slots of the blister pack.

  • IMPORTANT: The orientation of these drug slots will be reversed from how they appeared on the fill screen. The morning time slot will now be on the rightmost side of the blister pack. Ensure that the correct medications are accurately placed in the appropriate slots of each compliance packs.


   c) Remove the cover from the adhesive and dispose of this paper sheet in the recycling bin.


   d) Fold over the middle section of the tri-fold card to affix the silver adhesive to the blister pack insert.


   e) Using a rubber roller, apply pressure to the entire backside of the adhesive to ensure the blister pack insert is         firmly secured.


14. Affix labels to the compliance packs, making sure to match any weeks with variable drug scheduling with the appropriate blister pack label for each week

  • Follow the photo demonstration below for the step-wise method of applying the labels to Qube compliance packs:

   a) Remove the compliance pack contents label from the label sheet


    b) Affix the compliance pack contents label to the inside cover of the compliance pack and smooth outward from the centre to ensure there are no air bubbles in the label. 


   d) Fold along the creases of the compliance pack so that it has the appearance of a book.


   e) Affix the short label with the patient name, date, and week number to the top front right hand corner.


   f) Affix the long label with the patient name, date, and week number to the spine.


   g) Complete this labelling process for all compliance packs for weeks 1-4.


15. Add all blister packs for the month into a singular tote with the patient barcode.


16. Bring the filled tote to the pharmacy techs, and place it on the shelf corresponding to the pharmacy it was filled for



Filling Compliance Packs - Dispill Label:

  • Compliance packs requiring a Dispill label will be identified by the field under the drug layout screen
  • The steps for this process are the same as for the standard Qube packing protocol, except for the display order
  • These packs must be filled exactly as they appear on the screen

13. Close Dispill packs by affixing Dispill labels, making sure to match any weeks with variable drug scheduling with the appropriate blister pack label for each week. 

  • Follow the photo demonstration below for the step-wise method of applying the labels to compliance packs with Dispill label:


  

    a) Collect the Dispill pack and its corresponding Dispill label.

b) Peel back and completely remove the interstitial webbing from the front side of Dispill label starting from the top corner underneath the drug photos.


c) Flip over the Dispill label and align the holes in the label with the two plastic pegs protruding from the Dispill pack.


d) Smooth the Dispill label over the Dispill pack starting from the top centre and working outwards toward the edges.


14. Add all blister packs for the month into a tote with the patient barcode


15. Bring the filled tote to the pharmacy technician, and place it on the shelf corresponding to the pharmacy it was filled for


16. Once checked by the pharmacy technician, the tote containing the compliance packs for a patient will be moved to the shelf next to the shipping terminal ahead of packing and shipping the compliance packs
